Practicing Patience & Mindfulness

If there is one goal I’m most proud of myself for accomplishing this year, it’s my overall development of practicing patience – something I did not handle so well prior to 2018. This year has taught me that sometimes everything does not go your way when and how you want it. Nothing worth obtaining comes quickly, and it’s an uphill journey on understanding that one day your time will come.

When situations don’t turn in the direction you’d hope for, that is the time to build your strength and character. It's not the time to lose your head, isolate from the world and get angry. Instead, it’s when you learn things about yourself that you might not have ever known if you hadn’t been forced to succumb to the virtue of patience.

Even dealing with certain people this year, I had to learn being mindful in understanding that our realities are not the same – therefore learning to give more grace and forgiveness in return as opposed to my negative emotional reactions. People’s behavior towards you, whether good or bad, essentially has nothing to do with you personally. It’s what they’re dealing with themselves internally. You never know what lesson God is trying to teach, so learn to be patient with them as well if they’re trying – it takes time.

In the stages of working and waiting, a new person is being formed. You become more resilient and stronger. Small things don't irritate you as much because you understand it for face-value...small! For example, if you find yourself stuck in traffic, be productive and listen to a podcast or brainstorm ideas instead of complaining. Find ways to utilize your time through patience. Sometimes our gifts are right on the other side. Excelling upward in the successful life requires mastering this skill and passing the test.

This week practice mindfulness by being patient. Be patient with yourself, your situations and the people around you. Don't rush things that need time to grow. So be intentional, be understanding, and most importantly, be love.

Sending love and positive vibes your way!

Yvonne Camille
