I’m a firm believer in the notion “You Have What You Say.” What we speak over ourselves, family and friends truly make a difference. Growing up, we were all taught the rhyme “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.” Besides telling kids about Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny, this is by far the BIGGEST LIE to embed in our youth. Words do hurt, and they cut – sometimes they cut deeper than we realize and overflowing subconsciously into our adulthood. What you’re told constantly and your belief in that saying can affect you – either positively or negatively. I didn’t fully grasp this concept until reaching my early adult years.
As I grew older and continue to grow in knowing who I am, I’ve made an intentional effort to speak how I see myself and the life I want to honestly live. You control how you see yourself, no one can take that away from you. Speak life and abundance in your now and future. Watch what you call your kids, nieces and nephews. Speak to them, “you’re an intelligent young gentleman in the making” or “you’re a smart and classy little lady.” What we put out there will eventually make its way back around. Be careful - those words can bite back! It’s even stated in the bible, “Death and life is in the power of the tongue” – Proverbs 18:21. Therefore, try to be mindful of what comes out of that vessel.
Before the beginning of 2018, I created daily morning affirmations for a few of my family and friends to speak prior to starting their day. Here are a few that you can start off practicing each morning. Start with “I AM” as if you’re directly speaking to yourself:
· I AM Healthy
· I AM Wealthy
· I AM Confident
· I AM Beautiful
· I AM Loved
· I AM Successful
· I AM A Champion
· I AM An Overcomer
· I AM Fearfully and Wonderfully Made
There’s so much more you can add, but you get the overall gist of where I’m going. This week, practice watching your words, what you say and how you say it. Say it loudly and boldly! Reverse any negative connotations you held onto from your childhood or even now as an adult. If you speak it and believe it, the possibilities are limitless because your words truly hold weight.
Sending love and positive vibes your way! Yvonne Camille
